A note to parents:

Our classes are geared towards providing a musical immersion experience for your children. Just like language learning, musical learning happens best in a full-immersion approach. To this end, we ask that you refrain as much as possible from talking in class, either with your spouse, other parents, or with your children. If you must communicate with your child or another adult, please try to do it non-verbally, or as a last resort, in a singing voice. Your children are especially attuned to your speaking voice (you may not think they are listening to you, but they are!!) and are easily distracted by it. And remember: Children learn more from what you do than what you say. Be a model of attentive music making.

Babies

The Babies Only class is an introductory class just for new families with new babies, newborn through 7 months old. Babies are born musical! You will be amazed at the musical responses your child will exhibit, even though they are not yet mobile or verbal. In this class, the activities are specifically designed to teach you how to support music development in infancy and how to connect with your baby through music using methods such as "purposeful touch," "sound-layering," "dancing for baby," etc. And since our Babies Class uses the same song collections as our other classes, you will experience a seamless transition as your baby grows into our mixed-age classes. 45 minutes, 8 weeks (and invited to attend weeks 9 and 10 in mixed-age class, no extra charge, space permitting), Songbook and CDs included. Babies 0-7 months are also welcome in the mixed age classes, and are free (through 7 months of age) if they are accompanying an older sibling in a mixed age class!

Rhythm Kids 1

Rhythm Kids Level 1 is geared for preschoolers (ages 4-5, with parent/caregiver) who may be ready to take their next musical step. The Level 1 curriculum borrows some songs and traditions from Music Together family classes, while adding in developmentally appropriate activities adapted from the Rhythm Kids Level 2 curriculum. In other words, we drum, sing, dance, play instruments, and begin to play music-based games! In Level 1 music and movement activities, children begin to take charge, lead others, and be musically creative as they make up their own drumming patterns, invent new ways to play rhythm instruments, create movement ideas for songs, and even take a drum solo!

The Rhythm Kids Level 1 family offering includes:

  • 45-minute classes - 10 weeks
  • 2 CDs, uniques to Level 1, with 18 songs
  • 1 songbook, with in-home music and drumming ideas, plus parent education
  • access to each collection's songs and activities in the online Family Music Zone
  • access to (6) interactive online Rhythm Kids video tutorials - "Lessons with Tom"

Parents/caregivers are asked to stay and participate each week. Drums will be provided for the class each week, but if you’d like your child to have a drum to play with at home (and then continue to use in Level 2 classes!), please ask your teacher about the special discounts on djembe drums that are available to Music Together families.

Rhythm Kids 2

Rhythm Kids Level 2 offers school age children in Kindergarten, first, and second grades the opportunity to develop their music skills in a class that is lively, fun, and developmentally appropriate. A very special focus of the program is learning hand drumming, in addition to singing and other movement skills. Music-reading readiness activities are also included. The program is designed to be challenging, yet accessible for all children in this age group, regardless of musical level.

The Rhythm Kids Level 1 family offering includes:

  • 45-minute classes - 10 weeks
  • 2 CDs ( with 14 songs plus 4 unique animal rhythm chants/drum patterns)
  • 1 songbook (with in-home music and drumming ideas, plus parent education)
  • access to each collection's songs and activities in the online Family Music Zone
  • access to 11 interactive online Rhythm Kids video tutorials - "Lessons with Tom"

Parents/caregivers are welcome to stay and play, or to drop off their children.

Generations Class

Truly multi-age, these classes are held at a senior living facility, and we invite the elders to join us in making and enjoying the music. Children and elders interact, and can become like surrogate grandparents/grandchildren to each other. The elders are a wonderful source of musical knowledge, talent, and nurturing, and love to have visits from little ones - smiles all around!

Free Demo Class

A free 30-40 minute sample of a Music Together class. Registration required.

Free Babies Demo

A free 30-40 minute sample of a Music Together Babies class. Ages 0-8 months, with caregivers. Registration required.

Big Kids

Music Together Big Kids™ is a 60-minute class geared to the interests and abilities of 5-, 6-, and 7-year-olds. The program blends the elements of Music Together that parents and children love with new activities, skills, and challenges that are developmentally appropriate for this age group. 10 week classes.

Big Kids classes lay the foundation for Basic Music Literacy, complementing music instruction in school or instrument lessons, and leading to a lifetime of joyful music-making. The curriculum includes solfège, solos and ensembles, folk dances, harmony singing, vocal development, and drumming. In a safe, fun environment, your child can experiment with new activities like conducting and improvisation, story songs, and game songs.

Parent attendance is welcome but not required. Each family receives a Big Kids songbook, CD, solfège cards, and HomePlay activities, so that the entire family can continue the fun and learning at home and parents can stay connected with what the child is learning in class.
